Frequently Asked Questions

Why a Professional Organizer?

A productivity and organizing professional will work with you, at your pace with new suggestions or solutions for your organizing needs. While your friends and family may want to help, it might be tough for them not to criticize. Organizing professionals are not there to judge. While you may know it is time for a change, it can be a difficult and emotional time. A professional organizer will be your coach at this time, pushing you when needed, stepping back when necessary and providing a guiding hand throughout the process.

What should I expect during the process?

  • You can expect us to arrive on time.
  • We will discuss your needs and suggest a plan of action to meet your organizing goals. Once you agree with the plan we will begin with the hands on organizing.
  • We will take everything out, begin the sorting process and together we will decide what you are keeping. We will wipe down the area before we return the items, we are not house cleaners but want you to have a clean and organized space.
  • While we are working on the sorting and purging process-your home will look worse before it looks better. But rest assured we will put things back together before we leave.
  • Remember that old saying “A Place for Everything and Everything in its Place”? That is our goal. Once everything has a home it will be much easier for you to keep up.
  • We will take out the trash or arrange for the pick up of a large trash, recycling load.
  • We will also take items to donation and mail you a receipt or call and arrange pick up.

How can a professional organizer help me with the moving process?

Moving is hard work, and many of us find it overwhelming.  Often once you arrive at your new location, the daunting task of opening everything and setting up can be exhausting.  A professional organizer can help you downsize, categorize and sort items to be packed or left behind. Even if you can hire professional movers, it's always a good idea to prepare for your move by sorting out what you want to take with you and what stays behind and a professional organizer can help with that process.   Moving in together/combining households? Two of everything means you will end up with a lot of stuff! We'd love to help you sort through everything and find homes for your things in your new home.

What can I do to prepare for your visit?

Many people are embarrassed about their clutter or perceived disorganization. Don’t worry! We’ve seen it all.  Please do not clean up for us, we like to see your home as it usually is. This allows us to see what is and is not working. From there we are able to suggest new systems for you. Please have large trash bags available, we will use them for trash and items going to donate. If you can collect a few boxes we  will use them to sort items. Please do not buy organizing products. We will make suggestions on bins, baskets, shelves etc. once we see what is going back into your space.

Will you make me throw away my stuff?

No. The final decisions are yours. Your home is your sanctuary and we want you to be surrounded by things you love.  However, remember you wanted help.  We will guide you through the process that will free you.  Everyone thinks "my __________ is the worst you have ever seen!" We have seen it all and admire you for taking the first step-asking for help. It won’t be long before you feel better and breathe easier.

How long will it take?

Every job varies. It depends on the size of the space, amount of possessions, how many people are working and how long it takes for you to make a decision. The average room takes four to six hours. Keep in mind that working with papers takes the longest, so offices will require more time.
